⚽ “I’ve Been Waiting For This Moment” — Chirewa’s Dream Winner At Burnley

BURNLEY, ENGLAND — Tawanda Chirewa described an “amazing feeling” after writing his name into Wolves history, scoring a dramatic late winner at Turf Moor — his very first goal in professional football. The Zimbabwe international came off the bench to settle a tight contest, latching onto a through-ball from Mateus Mane and lifting a composed finish over the keeper to secure a vital 1–0 victory.

A Moment He’s Waited For

Since joining Wolves in 2023, Chirewa has shown patience and professionalism, biding his time in the wings. That patience paid off spectacularly in Lancashire:

“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m just happy the team won today and got back on the right track. When I was running through, I just wanted to score. I knew in my head that I was going to score. When the keeper got a touch, I thought maybe I was unlucky — but thankfully it still went in. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while.”

Seizing His Chance

The season hasn’t been straightforward. After a bright start, Chirewa found himself out of the matchday squad at times. But he never stopped believing:

“I’m not going to lie — it hasn’t been easy. There were games I wasn’t involved in. But today, with the injuries we had, the team needed more threat. I felt ready all season. I hope I gave the manager something to think about. I know it won’t be easy with such a big squad — but I made an impact, and I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Turning The Corner

This win came at exactly the right time, ending a run of two straight defeats:

“It was massive. We said before: today, the result mattered most. We got the win, found that momentum again. Now we prepare for Portsmouth at home on Tuesday — back-to-back wins and we’re right back there.”

He also highlighted the strength in depth that makes Wolves genuine promotion contenders:

“We lose players and still come to a tough place like Burnley and win. That’s our biggest strength — everyone is ready when called upon.”

A day to remember for Tawanda Chirewa. The first of many — here’s to the next chapter! 🐺❤️
