Swindon Town’s Grant Hall pays emotional tribute after passing of beloved aunt
The County Ground, 4 July 2026 – Swindon Town defender Grant Hall has announced today the sad passing of his beloved aunt, sharing a heartfelt message of thanks for the lifelong support she gave him through every step of his football journey.
Hall has a deep, long‑standing connection with the Robins, first joining the club on a development loan from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2013, before making a permanent return in July 2024. Since coming back, he has been the defensive anchor and experienced dressing‑room leader at the heart of Swindon’s push for promotion from League Two. His composure, organisational skills and calm influence have been central to the side’s growing momentum this term.
“Today I’ve lost someone so dear to me – my aunt, who was there from my very first days kicking a ball,” Hall said. “She encouraged me through every setback, travelled to grounds all over the country, and always told me to play with pride and respect. Coming back to Swindon meant so much to me, and she was just as proud as anyone to see me pull on this shirt again. I will carry her memory with me every time I walk out at The County Ground.”
The club has offered its full backing to Hall, with manager Gavin Gunning adding: “Grant is a pillar of this squad – a leader who sets standards on and off the pitch. Our entire group sends him, his family and loved ones every thought and condolence at this heartbreaking time. We will give him all the space and support he needs.”
Supporters have rallied behind him, sharing messages of solidarity across social media and recalling seeing his aunt cheering loudly in the Arkell’s Stand. Hall will take time away from pre‑season preparations to be close to his family, and says he hopes to return “ready to fight for the team and for her”.
