Parramatta Star Charlie Guymer Mourns Passing Of Beloved Aunt, His Lifelong Mentor
SYDNEY – Parramatta Eels rising star Charlie Guymer has today announced the heartbreaking passing of his beloved aunt – the woman who raised him, guided every step of his rugby league journey, and stood as his unwavering pillar of strength from childhood to the NRL stage. The young forward shared the news publicly, paying tribute to the selfless figure who shaped his character and career, describing her as “the heartbeat of my life and the reason I am where I stand today.”
“She wasn’t just an aunt; she was my mother figure, my first fan, and my greatest teacher,” Guymer shared in an emotional statement. “She made every sacrifice imaginable to give me a chance to chase my dreams. Every trophy, every jersey, every milestone we achieved together belongs to her. Her love, belief, and endless support built me both as a man and as a footballer. Losing her leaves a void nothing can fill, but I will carry her memory with me onto every field I step foot on.”
A proud local junior who climbed through the Eels’ renowned pathways system, Guymer has etched a steady rise in the sport, highlighted by his leadership and consistency. He captained the club’s SG Ball premiership-winning side, earned representative honours wearing the NSW Under-19 State of Origin jersey, and progressed to become a reliable first-grade regular. He made his NRL debut in 2024 – officially recognised as Eel #848 – and has since cemented his future with the club, signed through to the 2028 season.
Tributes have begun flowing from across the rugby league community, teammates, fans, and officials alike, acknowledging the profound influence his aunt had on his journey. Parramatta Eels released a message of support: “Charlie’s aunt was a constant presence in his life and career, and her devotion to his development was inspiring. We grieve with Charlie and his family, and stand ready to support him in every way through this difficult time.”
Known for his strong work ethic and grounded nature – qualities frequently credited to his aunt’s upbringing – Guymer has asked for privacy as he and his family mourn their loss. He plans to honour her legacy by continuing to play with the same passion, determination, and heart she instilled in him.
