LSU Women’s Basketball Portal Update: Four Tigers Depart Program

LSU’s women’s basketball team is undergoing significant roster changes this offseason, following their Elite Eight exit. Coach Kim Mulkey and her staff are actively retooling the team, aiming to bolster their depth for the upcoming season. While they secured the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, featuring standout forward Grace Knox, the Tigers are also focusing on strengthening their frontcourt.

Four players have already announced their departures via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Among them is redshirt sophomore Sa’Myah Smith, a key contributor who overcame a significant knee injury (torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus) to make a strong comeback during the recent NCAA Tournament. Smith’s performance was particularly impressive in the tournament, where she recorded double-doubles in both the Round of 32 and Sweet 16. Despite averaging 6.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game this season, Smith has decided to transfer to the University of Virginia. She made the announcement on social media. Her departure, along with three other frontcourt players, marks a significant shift in the team’s dynamic. The Tigers will look to the transfer portal to fill these gaps and maintain their competitive edge. The upcoming season promises to be a period of transition and rebuilding for LSU women’s basketball.
