“It Was Never About Money”: Shankland & Devlin Explain Rangers Move After Hearts Departure
EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND — Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin have spoken openly for the first time since completing their moves from Heart of Midlothian to Rangers, insisting their decision was never driven by finances and that they carry nothing but love for their former club and its supporters.
The pair confirmed their emotional farewells at Tynecastle this week, ending spells that made them firm fan favourites. “This was the hardest decision either of us has ever had to make,” Shankland said. “We love this club — we truly do. We love the city, we love the dressing room, and most of all we love the fans. Their loyalty, their passion, the way they follow this team everywhere — that stays with us forever. This was never, ever about money.”
Devlin echoed those sentiments: “We gave everything we had every single time we pulled on that maroon shirt. We know how much this club means to people, and we will always be proud to have been part of it. We will forever support Hearts, we will always look out for their results, and the connection we have with this place will never fade.”
Both players stressed that the move was driven by a desire for a fresh challenge at this stage of their careers, rather than any dissatisfaction at Tynecastle. “We felt the time was right to test ourselves in a different environment,” Shankland explained. “But nothing changes how we feel about Hearts. The fans stood by us through everything, and we can never thank them enough.”
Hearts officials paid tribute to their contribution: “Lawrence and Cammy gave us memorable moments and total commitment. We respect their decision and wish them well — they will always be welcome back at Tynecastle.”
For the players, the bond remains unbroken: “We may be wearing different colours now, but our love for this club will never die. Thank you for everything — we will carry you with us always.”
