Hearts land Luke Woolfenden as defender pens four-year Tynecastle deal

Tynecastle Park, 4 July 2026 – Heart of Midlothian have secured a key defensive target after reaching a full agreement to sign Coventry City centre‑back Luke Woolfenden on a four‑year contract, subject to final paperwork and a successful medical. The transfer fee remains undisclosed, with an official club announcement due in the coming days once all formalities are complete.

The 28‑year‑old Englishman has wasted no time sending three clear, powerful messages to the Tynecastle faithful, his new club, and his former side as he prepares to make the move north. “First, to the Hearts fans: I know how much this club means to you, and I promise you every single tackle, header and block will be for the badge,” Woolfenden stated. “I’m coming here to compete, to lead from the back, and to help take this team where it deserves to be.”

His second message was to the club’s coaching staff and squad: “I’m ready to work, to learn, and to pull my weight. I’ve seen the ambition here, and I want to be part of building something consistent and successful at Tynecastle. This is a big challenge, and I thrive on pressure.”

Finally, he paid tribute to Coventry City: “To everyone at the Sky Blues – players, staff and supporters – thank you for the trust and the memories. I gave everything for that shirt, and I leave with nothing but respect for what we achieved together. I wish you all the very best for the future.”

Woolfenden brings extensive EFL experience, having been a reliable and commanding presence for Coventry over recent seasons. His strength in one‑on‑ones, aerial dominance and calm distribution fit Hearts’ defensive priorities perfectly. The long‑term deal signals the club’s intent to build a settled core for the Scottish Premiership and cup campaigns ahead.
