This is the best news we’re all expecting to hear – Robbie Cundy confirmed at Sheffield Wednesday

This is the best news supporters were all expecting to hear: Robbie Cundy has officially been confirmed as the new player joining Sheffield Wednesday on a four‑year contract, with a reported transfer fee valued at €200,000. The 29‑year‑old English centre‑back arrives from EFL League Two side Cheltenham Town, where he originally signed back in the summer of 2025 on a deal that ran until June 30, 2027.

Cundy’s move represents an astute piece of business for the Owls: a solid, experienced defender secured for a modest outlay with long‑term security. During his time at Cheltenham, he quickly established himself as a reliable presence at the heart of the defence—strong in aerial duels, composed in possession, and consistent in reading the game across 40 competitive appearances. His previous contract still had twelve months remaining, making the fee of €200,000 excellent value for a player of his stature.

Sheffield Wednesday’s manager explained: “This is exactly the signing we needed. Robbie brings maturity, leadership, and a winning mentality to our backline. Even at League Two level, his performances stood out, and we believe he is ready to step up and help us push for promotion.”

Cundy commented: “This is the best news I could have hoped for. Joining Sheffield Wednesday is a massive step up in my career. I know the club’s history and the passion of the fans. I’ve signed for four years and will work every single day to justify this trust and give everything on the pitch.”

For the Owls, the deal adds defensive depth and stability at low cost, ticking every box for an efficient summer recruitment drive.
