Grêmio Viery: Everton pursue defender after fee talks and match scouting

According to ESPN, Everton and Grêmio Viery have held discussions over a transfer fee, with the Premier League club now in the final stages of negotiation for the defender. Everton sent representatives to watch him closely during Grêmio’s 3–0 win over Internacional in the first leg of this year’s Campeonato Gaúcho final.

However, Team Talk reports that an initial offer valued at roughly €12 million has already been rejected by Grêmio. Sources confirm Everton remains serious in their pursuit, and the realistic asking price is understood to sit closer to €20 million. Viery is tied to Grêmio until December 2029 and carries a substantial release clause set at €50 million.

The 22‑year‑old Brazilian centre‑back has attracted interest from multiple clubs, meaning Grêmio are open to a summer auction to drive up the fee and maximise their return. Everton’s scouting team has attended recent fixtures to assess his consistency, decision‑making, and aerial ability in competitive action.

“Everton sees Viery as a young defender with high upside who fits their long‑term defensive rebuild,” a club insider stated. “The first bid was a starting point; further talks are planned to bridge the gap in valuation.”

With several suitors circling, Grêmio hold strong negotiating power thanks to the length of his contract and that high release clause. For now, no agreement is in place, but Everton’s continued presence at his matches underlines their determination to add him to their squad ahead of the new season.
