⚽ FÀBREGAS: “THIS WASN’T LUCK — THIS WAS A MASTERCLASS”
COMO, ITALY — Cesc Fàbregas was beaming but composed after newly-promoted Como sensationally defeated Manchester United 4-1 on home soil in the Champions League. Speaking moments after the final whistle, the legendary midfielder turned manager left no doubt how his side pulled off the impossible.
“This wasn’t luck. It was a masterclass from the first minute to the last,” Fàbregas told reporters. “We knew exactly what we wanted to do. We studied their weaknesses, we trusted our strengths, and my players delivered everything we practiced — and more.”
It was a performance built on boldness and belief. Nico Paz opened the scoring inside 2 minutes to set the tone. Alberto Douvikas doubled the lead before half-time, Paz got his second just after the hour, and Jordi Ramón sealed it at 4-0 before Joshua Zirkzee grabbed a late consolation for United.
“Every single player gave everything,” Fàbregas continued. “We showed that with organisation, passion, and playing as a team, anything is possible. This club has big dreams. Tonight, we showed the world we belong here.”
For the football romantic, it was perfect — a European great returning to lead a rising force past one of the sport’s giants. And as the celebrations began in Como, Fàbregas had one final message: “Enjoy this one. But we’re only getting started.” ✨
