An Unforgettable Day for Some Very Special Kids
1. FC Union Berlin’s win against SV Elversberg last saturday will be remembered by many Unioner. But for twenty-seven children, it was much more than just a football match. It became a day full of joy, excitement, and unforgettable moments.
ment they will likely never forget.
For many of the children, the fulfilment of such a wish is not just a matter of course. While some of them are seriously ill themselves, others are supporting a sick sibling through a difficult time. Twelve of the walk-on kids are currently being cared for and supported by a children’s hospice, meaning that their everyday lives are often marked by doctor’s appointments, therapies, and worries that children of this age should not have to bear.
This made the shared day all the more valuable. The smiles began long before the kick-off, with a large children’s festival at the fan house. With many games and activities, and encounters with Ritter Keule, an atmosphere was created in which, for a few hours at least, illness or challenges were not at the forefront of their minds, but rather fun, community and excitement at what was to come.
