EELS LOCK DOWN FUTURE: Parramatta Secure Homegrown Talents Nunn, Martin & Rising Juniors On Long-Term Deals
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — Parramatta Eels have reaffirmed their commitment to nurturing from within, securing key junior graduates Steven Nunn and Liam Martin on fresh multi-year extensions alongside a cluster of emerging prospects — a clear statement that building through local pathways remains the club’s top priority.

According to Code Sports, powerhouse prop Steven Nunn has added a further year to his contract, now secured through 2029. Fullback Liam Martin has penned a two-year deal running until the end of 2028. Both are widely regarded as two of the brightest prospects in representative junior ranks, having earned Australian Schoolboys selection this season.
Nunn’s rise stands out since relocating from New Zealand in 2025. A cornerstone of the Eels’ SG Ball success, he graduated to Jersey Flegg with eight appearances (two starts) and dominated at the Australian Secondary Schoolboys Championships representing Patrician Brothers College, Blacktown. Notably, he becomes one of the rare Kiwi talents to feature in the Australian Schoolboys setup since Jason Tamualolo. His pathway is mapped: 2027 NRL pre-season, 2028 development contract, and full top-30 squad inclusion for 2029.
Equally impressive is Liam Martin, Australia’s Schoolboys custodian and National Championships winner with Combined High Schools — defeating Nunn’s CCC side in the final. He will train alongside the senior NRL squad throughout 2028 while still playing junior football.
In a massive milestone for both juniors, they have been selected to tour Papua New Guinea next month with the Junior Kangaroos, facing the Junior Kumuls in a high-profile showcase.

The retention drive extends further:
– Hayden Bell: New two-year deal, joins senior pre-season under Jason Ryles.
– Saxon Pryke & Christopher Petrus: Re-signed until 2028; Pryke already impressing in top-grade minutes.
– Ryda Talagi: Extended through 2029; younger brother of Blaize (Penrith), made recent NRL debut vs Sharks.
Nunn had previously committed to 2028 but earned an upgrade after a dominant front-row campaign. This follows last week’s announcement of three junior extensions, proving Parramatta’s academy pipeline is thriving.
The Eels complete their season Sunday against St George Illawarra Dragons, but the long-term focus is clear: talent is retained, pathways solidified, and the future secured.
