“Two Reasons I Chose Hearts Over Hibs”: Marko Ivezić Wins Tynecastle Race — Medical Passed, Announcement Imminent

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND  — Heart of Midlothian have won the dramatic race to sign Serbian international defender Marko Ivezić, beating city rivals Hibernian at the final whistle in a transfer that swung decisively in the space of 24 hours. Hibs had been on the brink of completing the deal and looked set to secure his signature, but a late, determined push from Hearts turned the tide — and the experienced defender has now revealed exactly why he chose Tynecastle over Easter Road.

“There were two main reasons,” Ivezić explained shortly after arriving in Edinburgh. “First, the project here at Hearts — the ambition, the direction, the plan for the team — it matches exactly what I want at this stage of my career. Second, the atmosphere and the history of this club. Tynecastle Park, the fans, the size of the club — it felt like the right place for me. I’m proud to be a Hearts player.”

The breakthrough came this afternoon when the 27-year-old defender completed his medical at the club’s Riccarton training ground — passing all checks in under 20 minutes — with all documentation now finalised and the official announcement expected imminently.

A powerful, composed centre-back capped once by Serbia, Ivezić brings proven top-flight quality to the Hearts defence. He made 87 appearances for his previous German club, including 23 starts in the Bundesliga, showcasing his ability at the highest level. His current market value stands at €1.5 million, reflecting his pedigree and consistent performances.

Hearts’ sporting director confirmed the coup: “We moved quickly when the opportunity arose, and we are absolutely delighted Marko chose us. He is a strong, experienced defender who knows the game and will add real quality to our backline. To beat our rivals to his signature makes it even sweeter.”

For Hibs, it is a bitter blow after weeks of advanced talks. But for Hearts and their supporters, it is a statement signing — one that strengthens their defensive options and sends a clear message of intent. Ivezić could make his debut as early as this weekend, and with the Edinburgh derby looming on the horizon, he could not have arrived at a better time.
