20 MINUTES AGO: Borchgrevink Ruled Out — Hearts Midfield Blow Ahead Of St. Johnstone Clash

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND  — Just 20 minutes ago, Heart of Midlothian confirmed that key midfielder Christian Borchgrevink has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Scottish Premiership fixture against St. Johnstone, with a left leg injury forcing him out of the Tynecastle encounter. Head coach Wouter Vrancken delivered the update following this afternoon’s final training session, confirming the Norwegian will not be part of the matchday squad.

“Christian has been assessed after training today and will not be available for tomorrow’s game,” Vrancken told reporters. “He picked up a knock to his left leg in the session and we cannot take any chances. It is disappointing for him and for us, but we have options in the squad to step in.”

Borchgrevink arrived at Tynecastle in June 2025 with high hopes, but his time in maroon has so far been severely disrupted by fitness issues. The 23-year-old has made limited competitive achievements since joining the club, having spent significant periods sidelined while recovering from injuries — a frustrating pattern that has restricted his ability to establish himself consistently in the first team. Despite his undeniable talent and technical quality, he has struggled to build momentum, with one setback following another throughout his first 14 months in Edinburgh.

His absence leaves a notable gap in the Hearts midfield, just as he had begun to show encouraging signs of late. Vrancken now faces a late tactical reshuffle ahead of the trip to McDiarmid Park, with the coaching staff assessing available options to fill the void.

“It’s tough for Christian especially,” Vrancken added. “He has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, so to suffer another setback is hard to take. But we have a squad for a reason — others will get their chance to show what they can do.”

The club confirmed that Borchgrevink will now undergo further assessment to determine the full extent of the injury and a potential recovery timeline. Supporters have expressed sympathy for the player, many hoping he can finally enjoy an extended run of fitness once he recovers.

Hearts travel to Perth aiming to maintain their strong early-season form and secure another three points on the road. While Borchgrevink’s absence is unwelcome, the squad depth will be tested — and the team will look to deliver a performance that keeps them among the league’s early pacesetters.
