Massive Statement Of Intent: Igor Júlio Joins Heart of Midlothian From Brighton
EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – Heart of Midlothian has landed one of the most accomplished defensive talents available on the market, completing the signing of Brazilian powerhouse Igor Júlio from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. The deal represents a massive statement of intent from the Jam Tarts, who are strengthening their squad significantly ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The 28-year-old defender has agreed all personal terms, with the official announcement set to follow as soon as administrative documents and final transfer protocols are fully finalized.
He has matured into a dynamic, versatile defensive force capable of changing the course of a game in an instant. Blessed with exceptional vision, composure under pressure, and fearlessness in both defensive duties and attacking transitions, Júlio operates seamlessly across the entire backline and is particularly adept as a left-sided centre-back. His ability to read the game, distribute from deep, and contribute to build-up play makes him the perfect fit for Hearts’ evolving tactical structure.
Born in Bom Sucesso, Brazil, Júlio brings elite-level experience to Tynecastle Park. He developed through the Red Bull Brasil and Salzburg systems before making his mark in Italy with SPAL and Fiorentina, where he made over 100 appearances and reached major finals. He moved to Brighton in July 2023 for a fee of €17 million, featuring in the Premier League and Europa League, and has also gained valuable loan experience at West Ham United during the 2025/26 season. Standing at 1.85m, he combines physical dominance with technical quality rarely seen in the Scottish Premiership.
Club sources confirm that all necessary paperwork is being processed rapidly, and the club intends to unveil Igor Júlio officially in the coming days. The capture of a player with Premier League pedigree and Champions League-level experience sends a clear message to rivals: Heart of Midlothian is ready to compete at the highest level both domestically and in Europe.
