JONATHAN DAVID COMPLETES EVERTON SWITCH FROM JUVENTUS AFTER PRE-CONTRACT AGREEMENT

Everton Football Club has confirmed the signing of Canada international striker Jonathan David from Juventus, following the completion of a pre-contract agreement finalised earlier this year. The 26-year-old will join the Toffees on a long-term deal effective from the start of the 2026/27 season, with the club securing his services after beating off competition from several Premier League rivals.

David, who joined Juventus as a free agent from Lille in July 2025, has endured a challenging campaign in Turin, netting seven times across all competitions. However, his pedigree as a proven goalscorer remains undisputed – the forward notched 109 goals and 30 assists in 232 appearances for Lille, playing a pivotal role in their 2020/21 Ligue 1 title triumph. He also holds the record as Canada’s all-time leading goalscorer, with 37 strikes in 73 caps.

Everton manager David Moyes, who has tracked the player for over five years, hailed the signing as a major coup for the club. “Jonathan is a player I have admired since my time at West Ham, and I am delighted he has chosen to commit his future to Everton,” Moyes said in an official statement. “His goalscoring record speaks for itself, but what sets him apart is his work rate, pressing ability and durability. He fits perfectly into the style of football we are building here, and I believe he can be a game-changer for us in the Premier League.”

The move marks a return to the Premier League for Moyes, who previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 before spells at Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham. The Scotsman, who rejoined the Merseyside club in 2025, has made strengthening the forward line a priority this summer, with current strikers Thierno Barry and Beto having scored just 11 league goals combined this season.

David, nicknamed the “Iceman” for his composure in front of goal, expressed his excitement at the new challenge. “Everton is a club with a rich history and passionate fans, and I am thrilled to be part of their future,” he said. “Working with David Moyes was a key factor in my decision – his belief in me means a lot, and I am determined to repay that faith by helping the team achieve our goals.”

Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, though Juventus are understood to have agreed to release David early from his contract, which was set to run until 2030.
