COLLINGWOOD NAMES HARVEY HARRISON AS BOBBY HILL’S REPLACEMENT AHEAD OF SEASON

Collingwood has announced rising star Harvey Harrison will step into the role vacated by Bobby Hill, who is taking an indefinite leave of absence to address personal issues. The club has confirmed the young forward as the perfect replacement, with Harrison ready to showcase his talent after overcoming injury setbacks that sidelined him for much of last season.

The decision comes as the Magpies move to strengthen their forward line in Hill’s absence, with the 22-year-old viewed as the ideal candidate to fill the void left by the premiership hero. Hill, a 2023 Norm Smith Medallist and club leading goalkicker, took leave earlier this month as the club prioritizes his well-being, leaving a significant gap in Collingwood’s attacking setup.

Harrison brings a wealth of promise and emerging talent to the role, having already made his mark on the senior team since debuting in 2023. His breakout year came in 2024 when he earned an AFL Rising Star nomination, recognition of his impressive contributions as a young forward with strong goal-kicking instincts and tenacious tackling ability. He quickly established himself as a reliable presence in the Magpies’ forward line, demonstrating maturity beyond his years and the capacity to perform under pressure.

However, his progress was halted by an ACL injury sustained late in the 2024 season, which forced him to miss the entire 2025 campaign. Despite the setback, Harrison has worked tirelessly on his recovery and returned to full training ahead of the 2026 season, showing great determination and resilience throughout his rehabilitation process.

Collingwood head coach Craig McRae expressed confidence in Harrison’s ability to step up. “Harvey has all the attributes to be a key player for us this season,” McRae said. “His skill set aligns perfectly with what we need in our forward line – strong marking, accurate finishing, and the willingness to apply defensive pressure. He’s earned this opportunity through his hard work and commitment, and we believe he’s the perfect replacement for Bobby as we navigate this period.”

The young forward has welcomed the challenge, stating his focus is on contributing to the team’s success while supporting Hill as he works through his personal challenges. “Bobby is a champion of our club, and we’re all behind him,” Harrison said. “My goal is to do the jersey proud and help the team achieve our targets this season. I’ve worked hard to get back to full fitness, and I’m ready to take this opportunity with both hands.”

With the new season fast approaching, all eyes will be on Harrison as he looks to build on his early career achievements and cement his place as a key member of Collingwood’s forward line, stepping into the significant shoes left by one of the club’s most beloved players.
