MUST READ FOR ROOSTERS SUPPORTERS: ROBINSON UNVEILS FOUR “SECRETS” TO 2026 PREMIERSHIP GLORY
Contract extensions, high-profile signings headline coach’s bold title blueprint
Sydney Roosters fans have been left celebrating after head coach Trent Robinson revealed four key initiatives he describes as the club’s “secrets” to securing the 2026 NRL Premiership – headlined by captain James Tedesco’s contract extension, new signings, and the return of two former star outside backs. The announcement builds on Robinson’s remarkable legacy at Bondi, where he has established himself as the longest-serving and most successful coach in the club’s history.
Speaking at the Roosters’ annual season launch on January 10, Robinson outlined the four pillars driving their title push: “These aren’t just moves on a whiteboard – they’re the building blocks we’ve been working on for months to bring success back to Bondi Junction.”
First, Robinson confirmed skipper James Tedesco will remain in the tri-colours until the end of 2027, with the club also extending the coach’s own contract through the same period. “James is the heart of this team – his leadership on and off the field is irreplaceable,” Robinson said. “Locking him in alongside our coaching staff gives us the stability championship teams need.”
Second, the Roosters have officially signed outside back Tommy Talau on a two-year deal starting in 2026. The former Bulldogs and Wests Tigers player, known for his explosive pace and strong finishing, will add depth to the club’s backline stocks.
In a stunning third and fourth development, Robinson confirmed the return of former fan favourites Joey Manu and Joseph Suaalii to the Roosters for the 2026 season. Manu, who spent last season playing in Japan’s rugby union competition, and Suaalii, who had been linked to a switch to rugby, have both committed long-term to the NRL and their original club. “Having Joey and Joseph back home is a game-changer,” Robinson added. “Their experience and skill set will take our attacking play to another level.”
Robinson’s tenure since 2013 has been defined by extraordinary success: three NRL Premierships (2013, 2018, 2019) – making the Roosters the first modern-era team to claim back-to-back titles – four Minor Premierships, three World Club Challenge trophies, and the 2017 Auckland Nines crown. He was also named Dally M Coach of the Year in 2013.
With the squad now fully assembled, the Roosters will open their 2026 campaign against cross-town rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs in round 1 at Accor Stadium. Club CEO Joe Kelly noted ticket sales for the season opener have already broken all-time records, with fans eager to see the star-studded lineup in action. “This group has the talent and character to bring the premiership back to Bondi,” Kelly said. “We’re ready to write the next chapter in our history.”
