SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 8 JANUARY 2026 – Joy erupted across Sydney Roosters headquarters and Allianz Stadium today as the club’s newest power couple – Tommy Talau and Jessica Sergis – announced they are expecting their first child in April 2026. The news comes just days after Talau put pen to paper on a one-year deal to join the Roosters, reuniting him with his partner who has been a cornerstone of the club’s women’s team since 2021.

Hailed as one of rugby league’s most prominent couples, Talau and Sergis have made headlines in recent weeks with the confirmation that they will both wear Roosters colours for the 2026 season. The announcement of their growing family has added an extra layer of celebration to the club’s off-season preparations, with players, staff and fans alike sharing messages of congratulations across social media and at a special gathering held at the team’s home ground.

Sergis, born 15 September 1997, is an accomplished Australian international who has cemented her status as one of the NRL Women’s Premiership’s most dominant players. After transferring to the Roosters ahead of the 2021 season, she has made 36 appearances for the club and scored 23 tries, playing a key role in their 2021 and 2024 premiership victories. Across her entire NRLW career with St George Illawarra Dragons and the Roosters, she has featured in 46 games and crossed for 28 tries, earning widespread recognition for her speed, strength and game sense.

Talau’s arrival at the Roosters marks a new chapter in his impressive career, which has already seen him establish himself as a prolific try-scorer at the highest level. The Samoan international made his name with Wests Tigers before moving to Manly Sea Eagles, where he achieved significant milestones including scoring his first NRL hat-trick and four tries in a single match. He was named Manly’s Most Improved Player in 2023 and has notched over 40 tries in his early career, bringing a wealth of experience and attacking flair to the Roosters’ backline.

The couple’s joint move to the Bondi Junction-based club was confirmed on 4 January 2026, with Roosters officials describing the signing as a testament to the strong culture being built across both the men’s and women’s programs. Speaking at today’s announcement, the club’s CEO expressed delight at welcoming the pair and their soon-to-arrive baby into the Roosters family.

“This is a wonderful moment for Tommy, Jess and everyone connected to the Sydney Roosters,” he said. “They are both exceptional athletes and incredible people, and we are honoured to support them as they embark on this exciting new journey as parents while continuing to pursue their rugby league dreams with our club.”

Talau and Sergis have shared that they are “overwhelmed with happiness” at the news, adding that they are grateful for the support of their teammates, the club and the wider rugby league community. They have also indicated that they are planning to balance their playing commitments with parenthood, with the Roosters confirming they will provide flexible support to ensure the couple can manage both their family and professional responsibilities.

The due date of April 2026 falls midway through the NRL season and towards the end of the 2026 NRLW campaign, though the couple have stated they will provide further updates on their playing plans closer to the time.
