MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: Excitement Surges Through Allianz Stadium as Anthony Minichiello Returns to Sydney Roosters

Electricity filled the air at Allianz Stadium today as the Sydney Roosters confirmed the return of club legend Anthony Minichiello, who will rejoin the organisation in a key role focused on player identification and contract extensions.

The one-club icon, whose glittering career with the Roosters spanned from 2000 to 2014, steps back into the fold to leverage his deep understanding of the game and the club’s culture. Tasked with identifying emerging talent and managing negotiations for existing squad members’ contract extensions, Minichiello brings a unique blend of on-field expertise and off-field acumen to the position.

Minichiello’s achievements in the red, white and blue are unparalleled in modern Roosters history. He sits second on the club’s all-time games list with 302 appearances, cementing his status as a cornerstone of the team over 14 seasons. A dual NRL Premiership winner, he lifted the trophy in 2002 and captained the side to glory in 2013 – a year that also saw him lead the Roosters to a minor premiership. His attacking prowess made him the club’s all-time leading try scorer with 139 four-pointers, while his individual excellence was recognised with the 2005 Golden Boot award, rugby league’s most prestigious international honour.

Speaking at the announcement event held at Allianz Stadium, Minichiello expressed his passion for giving back to the club that shaped his career. “Coming home to the Roosters feels like never leaving at all,” he said. “This club gave me everything, and I’m determined to help build the next generation of champions while ensuring our current stars remain part of our journey to more success.”

Roosters CEO Joe Kelly praised the appointment, noting that Minichiello’s connection to the game and the club makes him perfectly placed to strengthen the team’s roster strategy. “Anthony embodies everything the Sydney Roosters stand for – excellence, loyalty and commitment,” Kelly stated. “His insight will be invaluable as we continue to compete at the highest level of rugby league.”

Fans have already taken to social media to celebrate the news, with hashtags #MiniReturns and #RoostersFamily trending across Australian platforms. The club has indicated that Minichiello will begin his new role immediately, working closely with the recruitment and football operations departments ahead of the 2026 NRL season.
