Sydney Roosters Secure Elliott in Two-Year Deal, Beating Dragons and Tigers
Sydney Roosters have won the race to sign versatile forward Adam Elliott, securing the former Newcastle Knights player on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026 NRL season. Elliott, now a free agent after his Knights deal expired, had been linked to St George Illawarra Dragons and Wests Tigers, but the Roosters moved swiftly to capitalise on his availability.
Elliott joined Newcastle in 2023, emerging as a key figure in their forward pack with his strong leadership, high work-rate, and adaptability. He contributed to two consecutive finals appearances in 2023 and 2024, playing a pivotal role in revitalising the Knights’ forward unit. While he did not claim individual awards during his tenure, his impact was highlighted by standout moments, including scoring two tries in a single game in 2024.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson praised the signing, stating: “Adam’s toughness and versatility make him a perfect fit for our squad. His experience in finals football and ability to play multiple forward positions will strengthen our depth as we aim for success.” Elliott expressed enthusiasm for his new chapter, saying: “I’m thrilled to join the Roosters. Their tradition and ambition align with my goals, and I’m ready to bring my best to the team.”
The Dragons and Tigers had both pursued Elliott aggressively, seeing him as a valuable addition to their own forward stocks. However, the Roosters’ offer of a two-year deal and the opportunity to compete for premiership honours proved decisive. Elliott’s arrival bolsters a Roosters pack already featuring seasoned campaigners, adding grit and reliability to their ranks.
The move underscores the Roosters’ commitment to maintaining a competitive roster for the 2026 season, with Elliott poised to play a significant role in their forward rotation.
