Roosters welcome back Josh Aloiai in strength and conditioning role

The Sydney Roosters have announced the return of former player Josh Aloiai to the club, appointing him to a new strength and conditioning position ahead of the 2026 NRL season. Aloiai, who retired from professional rugby league in October 2025 after receiving medical clearance to end his career due to a chronic shoulder injury, will bring his wealth of on-field experience to support the squad’s physical preparation.

Aloiai’s playing career saw him spend the final four seasons (2021–2025) with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, where he established himself as a formidable prop renowned for his powerful running and unwavering resilience. While he did not claim major team honours during his time at the Roosters earlier in his career, his personal achievements are substantial: he featured in over 150 NRL games, represented Samoa on the international stage, and earned a Ken Stephen Medal nomination for his outstanding community work, highlighting his commitment both on and off the field.

His retirement came as a result of a persistent shoulder issue that had limited his availability in his final season, prompting medical advice to step away from competitive play. Now, Aloiai transitions into a role where he will work closely with the Roosters’ fitness staff to design and implement training programs, leveraging his firsthand understanding of the physical demands of elite rugby league.

Roosters head coach Trent Robinson praised the appointment, stating: “Josh’s experience as a tough, dedicated prop gives him unique insight into what our players need to thrive physically. His passion for the game and commitment to excellence make him a valuable addition to our support team.”

Aloiai expressed enthusiasm about his return, saying: “Coming back to the Roosters feels like coming home. I’m excited to contribute in a new capacity, helping the next generation of players build the strength and resilience required to succeed at the highest level.” The appointment underscores the club’s focus on nurturing talent through experienced leadership, as they aim to build on their 2025 campaign.
