Geelong Cats secure experienced forward Adam Elliott on two-year deal

Geelong Cats have announced the signing of former Newcastle Knights forward Adam Elliott to a two-year contract, bolstering their forward pack ahead of the upcoming AFL season. The move follows Elliott’s recent release from the Knights, where he spent three seasons (2023–2025) and established himself as a reliable, experienced campaigner.

During his tenure at Newcastle, Elliott played a key role in the club’s return to finals football in 2023, helping them finish 5th, and again in 2024 when they secured 8th place. He delivered standout performances in those playoff runs, including scoring two tries in a memorable 2024 match, and was widely respected for his robust defensive efforts and ability to lead by example in the middle. Despite the Knights’ struggles in the 2025 season, Elliott remained a consistent presence until his departure, bringing professionalism and grit to the lineup.

Cats head coach Chris Scott praised the acquisition, stating: “Adam’s experience in finals football and his strength in defence make him a valuable addition to our squad. We believe his physicality and leadership will complement our existing forward unit and help us compete at the highest level.” The signing reflects Geelong’s commitment to strengthening their depth with seasoned players as they aim to build on their recent success.

Elliott expressed excitement about joining the Cats, saying: “I’m thrilled to embark on this new chapter with Geelong. I’m grateful for my time at Newcastle, where I grew as a player and contributed to finals campaigns, and I’m ready to bring that experience to my new team.” Financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, but the two-year commitment underscores the Cats’ confidence in his ability to make an immediate impact.

As Elliott prepares to link up with his new teammates, he will look to build on his achievements and play a pivotal role in Geelong’s ambitions for premiership success. The club anticipates his arrival will provide a significant boost to their on-field performance and team dynamics.
