Eels Secure Rising Playmaker Jonah Pezet in Major Signing Coup
Parramatta Eels have pulled off a significant recruitment win, securing the services of promising young playmaker Jonah Pezet from the Melbourne Storm. The 22-year-old, who has emerged as one of the NRL’s most exciting young talents, will join the Eels ahead of the upcoming season, bolstering their halves contingent.
Pezet made his NRL debut for the Storm in 2023, quickly establishing himself as a composed and creative presence in the halves. Over three seasons in Melbourne, he featured in 18 first-grade games, scoring two tries and contributing four try assists, showcasing his ability to control the tempo of play and unlock defences. Operating primarily as a halfback or five-eighth, he earned praise for his calm decision-making under pressure and accurate kicking game, which played a key role in several of the Storm’s victories.
The move comes as the Eels look to rebuild their attacking structure following a challenging campaign, with Pezet seen as a long-term cornerstone for their midfield. Parramatta’s recruitment manager expressed enthusiasm about the signing, stating: “Jonah has all the attributes to become a leading playmaker in the NRL. His work ethic, vision, and ability to perform at the highest level at a young age make him a perfect fit for our squad.”
Pezet, who is contracted with the Eels for three seasons, said he was thrilled by the opportunity to take on a more prominent role. “Melbourne gave me my chance, and I’m grateful for that, but I’m excited to join the Eels and contribute to their success,” he commented. “I’m ready to work hard and help the team achieve its goals.”
The signing has been well-received by Eels fans, who see Pezet as the missing piece in their quest for premiership contention. Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy wished him well, noting: “Jonah has a bright future ahead, and we’re proud to have played a part in his development. He’ll be a valuable asset to the Eels.”
As Parramatta prepares for the new season, the arrival of Pezet signals their ambition to compete at the top of the NRL ladder, with the young playmaker poised to make an immediate impact in his new colours.
