IT’S OFFICIAL: EELS WIN RACE FOR TITANS STAR KELLY IN IMMEDIATE MOVE
SYDNEY – The question on every rugby league fan’s lips has been answered: yes, it’s now happening – Parramatta Eels have secured Gold Coast Titans centre Brian Kelly in a stunning immediate transfer, beating out rival clubs to land one of the NRL’s most consistent strike backs.
The Eels confirmed the deal on Monday, with Kelly released from the final year of his Titans contract to link up with the blue and golds effective immediately, adding crucial firepower to their backline as they plot a late push for finals contention and build toward 2026.
Kelly, 29, leaves the Gold Coast as one of the club’s most decorated modern players, having carved out a legacy as a reliable and dynamic centre over seven seasons. In 2020, he claimed the prestigious Paul Broughton Medal as the Titans’ Best & Fairest – becoming just the third backline player in the award’s history to do so – and was named the club’s Players’ Player in 2024, a testament to his respect among teammates.
His on-field stats speak for themselves: over 143 games for the Titans, he scored 51 tries and notched 11 goals, establishing himself as a consistent attacking threat with a knack for finishing close to the line. This season alone, he has played 21 games, scoring seven tries and providing 10 try assists, averaging 122 running metres per match.
Beyond the field, Kelly’s dedication to community work earned him a 2024 Ken Stephen Medal nomination, while he has also represented Indigenous All Stars and NSW Country during his career.
Eels coach Brad Arthur hailed the signing as a major coup for the club. “Brian brings experience, toughness and a winning mindset that will lift our entire squad,” he said. “He’s proven himself at the highest level and fits perfectly with our culture of hard work and accountability.”
For Kelly, the move marks a fresh start after a successful stint on the Gold Coast. “Parramatta feels like the right place at the right time,” he said in a statement. “I’m excited to hit the ground running and contribute to the Eels’ success.”
The Titans, meanwhile, thanked Kelly for his service and confirmed his departure would open opportunities for emerging talent in their backline.
