GREAT NEWS: Geelong Cats Global Community Unites to Celebrate Dangerfield’s Girlfriend’s Birthday
In a heartwarming moment that has lifted spirits across our community and Australia at large, Geelong Cats fans all over the world are joining players, coaching staff and die-hard supporters to send lovely messages as team captain Patrick Dangerfield celebrates his girlfriend’s birthday this week.
The outpouring of love has flooded social media, with fans from London to Los Angeles, Melbourne to Mumbai sharing heartfelt wishes alongside photos of the couple at recent club events. Geelong’s official Instagram page posted a candid snap of Dangerfield presenting his girlfriend with flowers at the team’s pre-season training base, racking up more than 150,000 likes in just 24 hours. Teammates including Tom Stewart, Cameron Guthrie and Jeremy Cameron have shared playful videos and personal messages, with Stewart joking: “Here’s to putting up with our captain – you deserve all the cake in the world!”
The celebration comes on the back of major career milestones for the 34-year-old, who at the conclusion of 2024 signed a two-year contract extension which will see him stay at Geelong until at least the end of 2026. Currently sitting on 337 games, expect to see him become just the 25th player in AFL history to reach 350 games at some stage next year – a feat that will further solidify his place among the game’s all-time greats.
Patrick Dangerfield’s achievements at the Geelong Cats include an AFL Premiership (2022), multiple All-Australian selections, three Carji Greeves Medals (club best & fairest), captaincy (2023-present), Gary Ayres Award (2022) and Leigh Matthews Trophy (2016). While his Brownlow Medal was won in 2016 before joining the Cats, it remains a key part of his extraordinary legacy. His dominant contributions across midfield and forward lines have made him a fan favourite and a leader who embodies the club’s fighting spirit.
Coaching staff have also joined the celebrations, with head coach Chris Scott describing Dangerfield as “not just a champion player, but a champion person who brings joy to everyone around him”. The club has even organised a surprise birthday lunch for the couple at Kardinia Park, with a small group of long-time supporters invited to share in the occasion.
As the global Cats family continues to shower the pair with love, the moment serves as a beautiful reminder of how sport can bring communities together in celebration – both on and off the field.
