IONGI SIGNS MASSIVE 5-YEAR EXTENSION TO MAKE PARRA HIS LONG-TERM HOME
Breakout fullback locks in future until 2030 after stellar rookie season and Tonga call-up
SYDNEY – Parramatta Eels have secured one of rugby league’s brightest young talents, with Isaiah Iongi inking a five-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2030 – a deal that has left fans and officials beaming with pride.
The 21-year-old fullback, who exploded onto the NRL scene in 2025, has committed his future to the Eels in a major coup for the club as they build their premiership-contending roster for the coming years.
“We couldn’t be prouder to have Isaiah lock in his future with us,” Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said in a statement. “He’s shown incredible maturity and skill in his first full NRL season, and we know he’s going to be a cornerstone of our side for years to come.”
Iongi’s breakout 2025 campaign was nothing short of spectacular: he scored eight tries, recorded 12 try assists, averaged more than four tackle breaks per game, and finished runner-up for the prestigious Dally M Rookie of the Year award. His dynamic performances at the back quickly made him a fan favourite and caught the eye of representative selectors.
The young star’s form earned him a call-up to the Tongan national side, where he made his international debut in October’s Pacific Championships – further establishing his credentials as one of the game’s most exciting emerging players.
Speaking after putting pen to paper on the long-term deal, Iongi expressed his delight at making Parramatta his home for the future. “This club has given me my chance in the NRL, and I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else,” he said. “The support from the fans, coaches and my teammates has been incredible, and I’m excited to keep growing here and help bring success to the Eels.”
The five-year extension is a vote of confidence in Iongi’s potential to become the Eels’ long-term starting fullback, with the club positioning him as a key figure in their plans beyond the current era of established stars. His combination of speed, footwork and game sense has already added a new dimension to Parramatta’s attack, and officials believe he will only get better with more experience at the top level.
As the Eels prepare for their 2026 pre-season campaign, Iongi’s re-signing provides a solid foundation for the backline and sends a clear message about the club’s commitment to nurturing and retaining young talent.
