Collingwood Celebrates Scott Pendlebury with Statue
Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury has been immortalized with a permanent statue, erected at the entrance of the club’s training base, the AIA Centre. The statue, unveiled today, celebrates Pendlebury’s remarkable career and contribution to the Collingwood Football Club.
Pendlebury, known for his exceptional skill, leadership, and poise, has played over 400 games for Collingwood, a feat achieved by only a handful of AFL players. He captained the club for nine seasons, leading them to a grand final victory in 2010. His consistent performance and dedication have made him one of the most respected figures in Australian football.
The statue captures Pendlebury in a dynamic pose, showcasing his signature agility and ball-handling skills. Sculptor, Jane Smith, aimed to embody Pendlebury’s elegance and determination on the field. “It was an honor to create this statue,” Smith said. “I wanted to capture the essence of Scott’s contribution to the sport and the club.”
Club president Jeff Browne spoke at the unveiling ceremony, highlighting Pendlebury’s impact on Collingwood. “Scott is more than a player; he is an icon,” Browne stated. “This statue is a testament to his incredible career and the legacy he has built here. It will inspire future generations of Collingwood players.”
Pendlebury expressed his gratitude and humility at the ceremony. “I am incredibly honored and humbled by this recognition,” he said. “Collingwood has been my home for so many years, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in this club’s history.”
The statue is expected to become a popular landmark for fans and visitors, serving as a lasting tribute to one of Collingwood’s greatest players. The Collingwood Football Club encourages fans to visit the AIA Centre and view the statue, celebrating Pendlebury’s extraordinary achievements.
