Rúben Neves Returns to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC on Loan

In a move that will delight Wolves fans worldwide, former club captain Rúben Neves has completed a six-month loan deal to return to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. The Portuguese midfielder is set to rejoin the squad in January, when the transfer market officially opens.

Neves, who previously starred for Wolves from 2017 to 2023, made a significant impact during his time at Molineux. His accomplishments include leading the team to the Championship title in the 2017-18 season, securing two consecutive 7th-place finishes in the Premier League, and reaching the FA Cup semi-finals in 2019 and the Europa League quarter-finals in 2020.

His instrumental role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League earned him the prestigious Wolves Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards in 2018.

Neves’ return on loan comes after a spell with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, where he signed a three-year contract in 2023 for a reported £47 million fee. His current contract with Al-Hilal runs until June 30, 2026, and his annual salary is significantly higher than what he earned at Wolves, reportedly around €17.5 million per year.

The loan agreement includes an option for Wolverhampton Wanderers FC to make the deal permanent should they wish to retain Neves’ services beyond the initial six-month period.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rúben back to Molineux,” said a club spokesperson. “He is a fantastic player and a true leader, and we know he will make a significant contribution to the team.”

Neves’ return is expected to bolster Wolves’ midfield options and provide a much-needed boost to the squad as they look to build on their recent performances.

Wolves fans will be eagerly anticipating Neves’ first appearance back in the gold and black, as he looks to rekindle his magic at Molineux.
