Sheffield Wednesday Players Consider Training Refusal Amidst Wage Crisis

Sheffield, England – Sheffield Wednesday faces further turmoil as reports emerge that some players are considering refusing to train due to ongoing wage payment delays. This development adds to the already chaotic situation at the club, intensifying the pressure on owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The latest setback involves yet another month of delayed wage payments for players and staff, continuing a troubling trend that has plagued Sheffield Wednesday. Despite spirited performances on the pitch under manager Henrik Pedersen, the off-field instability threatens to derail the team’s progress.

According to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, some players are contemplating refusing to train later this week in protest of the repeated payment issues. While they are expected to play against Birmingham City tonight, the situation remains volatile.

Dorsett stated on X, “SWFC players and staff went unpaid again this month. Payments were due on Friday, but they were told wages would be delayed until Monday – no payments arrived yesterday either. Players will play match v BCFC tonight, but some are considering refusing to train later this week.”

Sheffield Wednesday has been under severe strain, facing EFL embargoes and struggling to make significant improvements to the squad. The club is already in the relegation zone and could face a points deduction, further jeopardizing their season.

The situation has been exacerbated by the departure of several senior players at the end of the 2024/25 season, leaving Pedersen with a depleted squad. A potential training refusal by players would compound these challenges, potentially forcing the manager to rely more heavily on young, inexperienced players.

The unrest highlights the urgent need for stability and resolution at Sheffield Wednesday, as the club teeters on the brink of further crisis.
