Collingwood Honors Peter and Darcy Moore in Historic Celebration

In a momentous event, the Collingwood Football Club celebrated the extraordinary achievements of Peter Moore and his son, current captain Darcy Moore, honoring their profound contributions to the club. The celebration was filled with nostalgia, pride, and a deep appreciation for the Moore family’s legacy.

Peter Moore, a legendary figure in Collingwood’s history, was recognized for his outstanding career, which includes a Brownlow Medal (1979), two Copeland Trophies (1979, 1980), and two leading goalkicker awards (1977, 1978). His captaincy from 1981 to 1982 and All-Australian selection in 1979 further solidified his status as a club icon. Despite playing in five Grand Finals, Peter’s pursuit of a premiership with the Magpies remained unfulfilled, yet his 172 games and 192 goals stand as a testament to his dedication and skill.

Darcy Moore, carrying on his father’s legacy, has carved his own path of greatness. His achievements include captaining the Collingwood Football Club to an AFL Premiership victory in 2023, a feat that etched his name in the club’s history. Darcy’s leadership was further recognized with his selection as the All-Australian Team captain in 2023. He also earned an All-Australian selection in 2020, was named to the AFL’s 22 Under 22 Team in 2016, and received the Bob Rose Award for Best Player in Finals in 2022.

The celebration highlighted the unique parallel of Peter and Darcy both captaining Collingwood, bridging different eras of the club’s history. Peter’s tenure as captain from 1981 to 1982 laid a foundation of leadership, while Darcy’s current captaincy, marked by the 2023 Premiership, signifies a new chapter of success.

The event served as a reminder of the Moore family’s enduring impact on Collingwood, embodying the values of dedication, leadership, and excellence. As the club looks to the future, the legacy of Peter and Darcy Moore will continue to inspire players and fans alike.
