Kalen DeBoer shares injury update for Alabama football as preseason camp approaches

Alabama football was banged up during spring football. The Crimson Tide had injuries across the roster, getting down to just one scholarship tight end by the end.

Speaking Tuesday at SEC spring meetings in Miramar Beach, Fl., Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said he was expecting a much healthier roster when preseason camp begins ahead of the 2025 season.

“There’s too many as a whole that are still coming off of last season, missed some time during during spring ball, but there’ll be a pretty good group that now is in full swing,” DeBoer said, “Just a few guys that have what we refer to as limited or limited contact, I mean, there’s not contact now, but limited and just kind of monitoring their situations as they go through the month of June.”

Key players who missed all of spring for Alabama included cornerback Domani Jackson, linebacker Deontae Lawson, tight end Danny Lewis Jr. and defensive back Keon Sabb. Offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, linebacker Justin Jefferson and other players were also limited during the spring, wearing black jerseys to signify them as non-contact participants in practice.

“By the time we hit August, we feel very confident that we will have everyone back and be ready to roll at the level we need to,” DeBoer said.

The Crimson Tide finished DeBoer’s first season at the helm 9-4, missing the College Football Playoff, capped off with a loss in the ReliaQuest Bowl. DeBoer said the 2024 season’s results have motivated the current roster.

“They are almost over the top with the work that they want to put in because of the desire they have to want to be great and have an amazing season,” DeBoer said. “And really, coming off of last year, you know, want to prove some people right and prove some people wrong.”

SEC spring meetings will continue through Thursday in Destin. Alabama will begin preseason camp in early August, before traveling to Tallahassee to play Florida State on Aug. 30 to open the season.
