Former BYU Guard LJ Rose Joins Miami Hurricanes Coaching Staff
PROVO, Utah – LJ Rose, a former guard for BYU, Houston, and Baylor, is ascending in the coaching ranks. He’s been named the Director of Player Personnel for the University of Miami Hurricanes, joining the staff under newly appointed head coach Jai Lucas, formerly the associate head coach at Duke.
Rose concluded his collegiate basketball career at BYU in the 2016-17 season, making history as the first graduate transfer under then-coach Dave Rose. This connection holds a unique familial element: Rose’s father, Lynden Sr., played alongside Dave Rose during Houston’s renowned “Phi Slama Jama” era in the early 1980s.
Rose’s time at BYU was marked by a strong start. He was a team captain and started in 25 games before a knee injury cut short his final month of the season. Following his collegiate career, Rose played for the Salt Lake City Stars in the G-League and then pursued international opportunities.
His path then shifted away from the court. In 2021, he joined the Houston Rockets as a scout. Adding to his impressive resume, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello reported that Rose also serves as the General Manager of the Bahamas National Team.
This new role at Miami presents a potential future clash with his alma mater. BYU and Miami are scheduled to meet in a four-team multi-team event in Orlando during Thanksgiving week of the 2025-26 season, alongside Georgetown and Dayton. This matchup will add an intriguing layer to the already compelling story of Rose’s coaching career trajectory. His experience as a player, scout, and now director of player personnel positions him for continued success in the collegiate coaching landscape. The Hurricanes will undoubtedly benefit from his diverse background and keen basketball acumen.
