Kentucky Wildcats Star Lexi Blue Announces Departure After Loss to South Carolina

Lexi Blue, one of the standout players for the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team, has announced her immediate departure from the program following the team’s 90-72 loss to the top-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday. The decision comes as a shock to fans and teammates, as Blue was considered a key piece of Kentucky’s roster this season.

Blue, a talented freshman, made the announcement via social media shortly after the game, stating that she has decided to step away from the program for personal reasons. “I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and the incredible Kentucky fans for their support during my time here,” Blue wrote. “This was not an easy decision, but after much thought, I believe it is the best step for me moving forward.”

Kentucky head coach Kyra Elzy addressed Blue’s departure in a brief statement, expressing gratitude for her contributions. “Lexi is a tremendous player with a bright future, and we respect her decision. We wish her nothing but success in her next chapter,” Elzy said.

Blue, who joined the Wildcats as part of their 2023 recruiting class, had shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season. Her scoring ability and versatility made her a promising piece for Kentucky’s future. However, with the team struggling in SEC play, her departure adds to the challenges facing the Wildcats as they look to rebound in the latter part of the season.

It remains unclear whether Blue will enter the transfer portal or step away from college basketball entirely. Her decision leaves Kentucky with a significant gap to fill as they prepare for the remainder of their conference schedule.
