South Carolina Gamecocks Soar High: Staley Wins Double Award, Kitts Takes Home Prestigious Honor

 

The South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team continues to shine under the leadership of head coach Dawn Staley, who has added two prestigious awards to her already impressive trophy cabinet. Staley was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career, a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence and the success of the Gamecocks program. Adding to the celebrations, key player Chloe Kitts was honored with the prestigious Perkins Maxwell Award, recognizing her outstanding academic achievements and dedication to the sport.

 

Staley’s leadership has been instrumental in guiding the Gamecocks to a dominant season, cementing their status as a powerhouse in women’s basketball. Her unwavering dedication to building a strong team culture, combined with her exceptional coaching skills, has resulted in a string of remarkable victories and a national championship in 2024.

 

“I’m humbled and grateful to receive this honor,” Staley said, accepting the SEC Coach of the Year award. “This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our players, staff, and everyone who contributes to our program.”

 

Meanwhile, Chloe Kitts, a standout player known for her on-court brilliance and commitment to academics, was awarded the prestigious Perkins Maxwell Award. This award recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional achievement both on the court and in the classroom. Kitts, a senior, boasts a stellar GPA while consistently delivering high-level performances on the court.
