Arizona State Football Head Coach Kenny Dillingham is celebrating a monumental boost to the program following an extraordinary donation by former All-Pro safety Darren Woodson. The ex-ASU standout, widely regarded as one of the best players to ever suit up for the Sun Devils, has pledged $5 million to support the team’s growth and development.

Woodson, a key figure in Arizona State’s football history, played for the Sun Devils from 1989 to 1991 before going on to a legendary career with the Dallas Cowboys. Over his 12 seasons in the NFL, Woodson was a five-time Pro Bowler and won three Super Bowls with Dallas, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest safeties in the league’s history.

Dillingham, who took over as Arizona State’s head coach in 2023, expressed his excitement and gratitude for Woodson’s generous contribution, calling it a game-changer for the program. “This is a historic moment for Arizona State football,” Dillingham said. “Darren’s pledge is not just a financial gift; it’s a statement of belief in the future of this program. His commitment to our players and our vision will have a lasting impact.”

The donation will be used to enhance various aspects of the football program, including recruiting, facilities upgrades, and player development initiatives. Dillingham and the Sun Devils are working to rebuild the team and elevate ASU to a competitive level in the Pac-12 and beyond, and Woodson’s support will play a crucial role in those efforts.

For his part, Woodson expressed his desire to give back to the university that helped shape his career. “Arizona State gave me the foundation I needed to succeed in football and life,” Woodson said. “This is my way of helping future generations of Sun Devils achieve greatness.”
