The Ohio State Buckeyes are national champions but are already facing challenges when it comes to once again being a contender for 2025. The Buckeyes are on the verge of losing another player in the college football transfer portal.

In the days following the national title game, several players have announced their decision to transfer to other schools. Former reserve quarterback Devin Brown transferred to the Cal Golden Bears.

Ex-Ohio State pass rusher Mitchell Melton is joining the Virginia Cavaliers. Now, cornerback Calvin Simpson-Hunt is on the verge of heading to the Big 12.

Simpson-Hunt had been a player expected to enter the portal, but athletes are still able return to their current school until signing with another program. Instead, Simpson-Hunt is expected to join the Baylor Bears, per ESPN’s Max Olson.

“Ohio State CB Calvin Simpson-Hunt is expected to transfer to Baylor, ESPN has learned. Bears bringing a former top-150 recruit home who has 3 more seasons of eligibility,” Olson detailed on Thursday.

The college football transfer portal window has technically closed, but Ohio State players have five days following the national title game to make a decision regarding their future. The good news is Ohio State has a deep roster that should be able to withstand the losses from the transfer portal and NFL draft.
