Travis Geopfert Announces Departure from Kansas State University Track and Field Program

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Travis Geopfert, the Director of Track and Field and Cross Country at Kansas State University, announced his departure from the program in an unexpected move following the unveiling of the 2024–2025 coaching staff in August 2024. Geopfert, who has been with the Wildcats for several years, has decided to step down from his role, marking the end of an impactful era for the K-State track and field teams.

Geopfert, who has been a prominent figure in shaping both the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country programs, took to social media to confirm his decision, citing personal and professional reasons for his departure. His tenure at Kansas State was marked by numerous successes, including several record-breaking performances, NCAA championship appearances, and the development of numerous student-athletes who went on to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

In his announcement, Geopfert expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the program and the athletes who helped elevate K-State’s status in collegiate track and field. “It has been an incredible honor to work alongside such talented individuals and to be part of this program’s continued growth,” he wrote.

Geopfert was instrumental in assembling the 2024–2025 coaching staff, a team that was expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to further elevate the Wildcats’ track and field and cross country programs. His departure leaves a significant gap, and K-State administrators are already beginning the search for his successor, with the hopes of maintaining the momentum Geopfert helped build.

The Kansas State University Athletics Department has expressed appreciation for Geopfert’s leadership and contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavors. The program now faces the challenge of ensuring a smooth transition as it looks to continue its competitive success in the coming seasons.
