Tennessee Vols Football Closes Unforgettable Season with 42-17 Loss to Ohio State

In a season that captured the hearts of fans and revived the Tennessee Volunteers football program, the final whistle sounded in a disappointing 42-17 defeat to the Ohio State Buckeyes. The highly anticipated matchup, played at Ohio Stadium, marked the end of a remarkable season for the Vols, but also exposed the challenges they face when competing against the nation’s elite.

The game started with high hopes for Tennessee, as they were riding the momentum of a historic season that included big wins and a potent offense led by quarterback Joe Milton III. However, from the outset, Ohio State’s defense stifled Tennessee’s offensive game plan, forcing the Vols into several mistakes and missed opportunities.

Milton, who had been effective throughout the season, struggled to find his rhythm against Ohio State’s aggressive defense. The Buckeyes applied pressure early, sacking Milton multiple times and limiting his passing lanes. Despite his efforts, Tennessee was unable to establish any consistent offensive drive, finishing with only 17 points—far below their usual production.

On the other side of the ball, Ohio State’s offense, led by quarterback Kyle McCord, proved to be too much for Tennessee to handle. McCord threw for over 300 yards and connected on four touchdown passes, including a dazzling 50-yard strike to wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who torched the Vols’ secondary throughout the evening. The Buckeyes’ running game also proved effective, with running back TreVeyon Henderson contributing a pair of touchdowns to seal the win.

While the loss to Ohio State was a tough pill to swallow, it did little to overshadow what has been a groundbreaking season for Tennessee. Coach Josh Heupel’s team showed immense growth, and the program’s future looks brighter than ever. The Vols earned national respect, making it clear they’re back on the map as contenders in the college football landscape.

Though the final score was lopsided, Tennessee’s 2024 campaign will be remembered as a season of great promise and an exciting step forward for the storied program.
