Former Alabama QB Steadman S. Shealy Returns to Crimson Tide, Donates $6 Million to Orphanages

Tuscaloosa, AL – In a heartwarming and generous gesture, former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Steadman S. Shealy made a triumphant return to his alma mater, not only reconnecting with the program  also making an extraordinary $6 million donation to orphanages across the state.

Shealy, who led Alabama to a national championship victory in 1977 under legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, has long been a respected figure in the Crimson Tide community. After a successful professional career, Shealy has spent much of his post-football life focused on philanthropic efforts, particularly in the field of child welfare. His latest contribution marks a significant milestone in his long-standing commitment to helping children in need.

“I’ve been blessed in so many ways by this university, and I wanted to give back to the community that supported me during my time here,” Shealy said in a press conference held at Bryant-Denny Stadium. “The orphanages across Alabama are doing incredible work, and I hope this donation will help make a real difference in the lives of children who need it most.”

The $6 million donation will be distributed among various orphanages and child care centers throughout Alabama. These funds will go toward improving facilities, supporting educational programs, and providing resources to children in foster care. Shealy’s gift is one of the largest philanthropic donations ever made by a former Alabama player.

Coach Nick Saban expressed his gratitude, calling Shealy’s gesture “an incredible example of leadership and generosity.” Saban added, “Steadman’s legacy at Alabama is not just about what he accomplished on the field, but also about the positive impact he continues to have off it.”

Shealy’s return to Alabama and his generous donation have inspired many, reinforcing the deep bond between the university and its alumni.
