BYU Cougars Football Announces Major Stadium Renovation Plans
Provo, UT — Brigham Young University (BYU) has officially unveiled plans for a significant renovation of LaVell Edwards Stadium, marking a new era for the Cougars’ football program. The announcement, made during a press conference on Monday, details a multi-phase project aimed at enhancing fan experience, modernizing facilities, and expanding the stadium’s capacity to accommodate a growing fanbase.
The renovation is expected to cost upwards of $100 million and will be completed in stages, with construction set to begin following the 2025 football season. The first phase of the project will focus on upgrading seating, improving concourse areas, and expanding luxury suites and club seating. The stadium’s seating capacity, currently at 63,470, will increase by approximately 10,000, allowing for a more immersive and comfortable game-day experience.
“We’re excited to take this next step in the evolution of BYU football,” said BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe. “This renovation will not only give our players and coaches world-class facilities but will also ensure that our fans have a top-tier experience, both in terms of comfort and entertainment.”
Future phases will include state-of-the-art video boards, upgraded locker rooms, and enhanced fan zones. Plans also include the addition of a new team facility, which will be adjacent to the stadium, featuring modern training equipment, meeting rooms, and other performance resources.
The renovation project is a crucial part of BYU’s efforts to continue competing at a high level in college football, particularly as the program transitions to the Big 12 Conference. The university emphasized that the project will be funded through private donations, with no impact on student tuition or university operating costs.
Construction is expected to be completed by the start of the 2027 football season, with the Cougars eager to host games in the revamped venue. The upgraded LaVell Edwards Stadium is set to become a centerpiece for both the team and the BYU community for years to come.
