Georgia’s Carson Beck Undergoes Season-Ending Elbow Surgery
Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has been sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 football season after undergoing elbow surgery, the school announced on Tuesday. Beck, who had been serving as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback, was injured during the team’s recent victory over South Carolina, though the full extent of the injury had not been disclosed until now.
The surgery is expected to keep Beck out for the rest of the season, leaving Georgia with a significant void under center. Beck, a fifth-year senior, had been a key player for the Bulldogs since taking over as the starting quarterback earlier this year. Known for his leadership and ability to manage Georgia’s potent offense, Beck had thrown for over 2,000 yards with 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions before the injury.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart expressed confidence in the depth of the team’s quarterback room, with backup quarterbacks ready to step into the role. True freshman Isaac Lewis, who has impressed in limited action this season, is expected to take over as the starter for the remainder of the campaign. Additionally, senior backup Mason Bryant, who has had some experience in relief roles, will be poised to provide leadership and support as needed.
“Carson has been an incredible leader for this team, and we are all wishing him a speedy recovery,” said Smart in a statement. “While this is a tough setback, we have full faith in Isaac and Mason. Our goal remains unchanged: to compete at the highest level and to finish the season strong.”
Beck’s injury marks a challenging moment for the Bulldogs, who are currently in the thick of the race for a College Football Playoff berth. With the SEC Championship and potential playoff appearances still on the line, Georgia will need to rely on its next-generation quarterbacks to maintain its championship aspirations.
