Georgia Bulldogs Football Announces New Name for Team Stadium

The University of Georgia’s football program officially announced a change to the name of its iconic home stadium, marking a new chapter in the team’s history. The historic Sanford Stadium, which has been the home of Georgia Bulldogs football for nearly a century, will now be known as Bulldogs Field at Sanford Stadium.

The decision to alter the name was made following a unanimous vote by the University of Georgia’s Board of Regents, along with input from athletic department officials and university leadership. The move is part of an ongoing effort to honor the proud legacy of the Georgia Bulldogs football team while incorporating the growing importance of sponsorships and fan engagement.

“We are excited to make this change and embrace the legacy of the Georgia Bulldogs in a new way,” said Josh Brooks, UGA’s Director of Athletics. “Sanford Stadium has always been a place where unforgettable moments in college football have happened, and we believe this new name reflects the pride and passion of our fans and alumni. It reinforces our commitment to maintaining one of the most storied traditions in college football.”

Bulldogs Field at Sanford Stadium will continue to be the same cherished venue that has hosted countless games and memorable victories for Georgia fans, but with this new name, the stadium will also begin a new era of branding and fan engagement. Officials have stated that the change will also bring an enhanced fan experience with new signage, digital content, and community initiatives that will promote the Bulldogs’ values and culture.

The new name, which officially took effect in December 2024, will appear on all future game day materials, merchandise, and official announcements. Fans attending the next home game will be among the first to witness the transformation on site.

For many, the name change represents more than just rebranding; it symbolizes a deeper connection to the team and a modern evolution of Georgia’s football legacy. The Bulldogs are looking forward to continued success on the field, and this change in name reflects their ambition for the future.
