Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson is expected to play Monday night after he cleared concussion protocol. The Pro Bowler has missed a total of three games this season.

Ferguson was a full participant in practice on Thursday. It marked his first official practice since he sustained a concussion in the Cowboys’ Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans.
Ferguson wasn’t the only key starter to go down in Week 11. Right guard Zack Martin sustained a season-ending ankle injury. The All-Pro heard he would not be taking the field again this season soon after finding out he was the team’s nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
Martin’s injury had fans wondering whether the perennial ironman would hang up his jersey once the 2024 season concluded. However, Martin shared he wouldn’t address the retirement question until after he has recovered.
“This is not the time to have those discussions, and this is kind of all I’ll say about that,” Martin said via the team transcript. “It’s a tough situation and the most important thing on my mind is getting healthy, and then having those conversations down the road. First and foremost, I want to get healthy and maybe those conversations are a little bit easier. We’ll see what the future holds.”
Martin revealed he was dealing with multiple injuries this season as was his teammate, Ferguson.
Ferguson dealt with a sprain MCL earlier this season, but is in full form for the final five games of the 2024 campaign. The star tight end will be a much-need reinforcement for the injury-ridden Cowboys.
Dallas has won its last two games and the team is hopeful Ferguson’s return to the offense should propel the Cowboys to another victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
As Cooper Rush and the Cowboys’ offense try to match the explosiveness of Joe Burrow and company, it’s likely that Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy will utilize multiple tight ends in some packages.
Ferguson had a breakout season in 2023, but like many of his teammates, has had a slow start to the season. Ferguson amassed 71 receptions for 761 yards and five touchdowns in 2023.
In 2024, Ferguson has tallied 43 receptions for 369 yards and no touchdowns so far. There’s a good chance his final stat line will look much different by the end of the season as the offense settles in.
