JUST NOW IN MADISON COUNTY,4 kids hurt in Madison County school bus crash

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol released an update to the cause of a Madison County school bus wreck at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 5.

The NCSHP said the bus was passing a truck at 4:07 p.m. onBig Pine Road that was going the opposite direction on the narrow roadway and it fell on its side into Big Pine Creek.

“With the road width being narrow, the bus had to the utilize a portion of the shoulder so the vehicles could pass by each other,” NCSHP Trooper Brian Anthony said in a statement to News 13. “The shoulder of the roadway was soft due to the recent rains. The shoulder gave way, causing the bus to overturn.”

Wednesday, May 5, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, at approximately 4:07 p.m. a school bus traveling northeast on Big Pine Road ran off the road to the right and overturned into a creek.

Ten students and the bus driver were on board. Authorities said three students were injured and two of those students were transported to Mission Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A first responder said the injuries were mostly scrapes and bruises.
