BREAKING: Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers Resigns After Steve Sarkisian’s Decision

In a stunning development, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has announced his resignation from the football team, following a decision by head coach Steve Sarkisian. The resignation comes amid growing speculation about the quarterback position after a string of inconsistent performances this season.

Ewers, who transferred to Texas from Ohio State in 2022, had been widely considered the future of the Longhorns’ offense. Despite flashes of brilliance, the 21-year-old struggled with injuries and consistency, leaving his spot as the team’s starter in question. Coach Sarkisian’s decision to bench Ewers in favor of backup quarterback Arch Manning, the highly touted freshman, appears to have played a pivotal role in the quarterback’s decision to step away from the program.

In a statement released earlier today, Ewers said, “After much consideration, I have decided to step down from my position as quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. I am incredibly grateful for my time here and the opportunity to represent this storied program. However, I believe it is time for me to explore new opportunities and continue my football journey elsewhere.”

The resignation marks a significant shift for the Longhorns, as Ewers had been expected to lead the team for at least one more season. With Manning now at the helm, Texas will look to him to carry the torch and continue building on the foundation Sarkisian has laid.

Sarkisian addressed the media, expressing understanding for Ewers’ decision. “Quinn has been a tremendous player for us, and we respect his choice. We wish him the best in whatever comes next. Our focus now is on developing Arch and preparing for the challenges ahead.”

  1. Ewers’ departure raises questions about Texas’ quarterback depth and what lies ahead for the program, as the Longhorns continue their quest for success in the competitive Big 12 conference.
