Wisconsin Badgers Lose Key Running Back Chez Mellusi to Injury
The Wisconsin Badgers football team suffered a significant setback today as starting running back Chez Mellusi was ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury. The loss of Mellusi, a pivotal figure in the Badgers’ offensive game plan, comes at a crucial point in the season as the team looks to make a push in the Big Ten.
Mellusi, a graduate transfer from Clemson, had been one of the most consistent and dynamic players for Wisconsin throughout the season. Known for his hard-nosed running style and ability to break tackles, Mellusi had rushed for over 800 yards and scored six touchdowns in his first year with the Badgers. His presence in the backfield had been instrumental in Wisconsin’s offensive balance, providing a reliable ground game to complement their defense-first approach.
Head coach Luke Fickell expressed his disappointment over the injury, calling Mellusi a “key leader” both on and off the field. “Chez is not only a tremendous player but also a great teammate,” Fickell said. “His work ethic and leadership will be missed, but we know our team will rally around each other and keep fighting.”
With Mellusi out, the Badgers will turn to a mix of younger running backs to carry the load. Sophomore Isaac Guerendo, who has shown flashes of potential throughout the season, is expected to take on a larger role, along with freshman Nate White, who has impressed in limited opportunities.
The loss of Mellusi adds to the mounting challenges for Wisconsin as they prepare for the final stretch of the season. The Badgers will need to adjust quickly as they aim to stay competitive in the race for the Big Ten Championship.
