Tampa Underwater Hockey Player Missing from Swimming Pool
TAMPA, FL – A Tampa-based underwater hockey player has gone missing under mysterious circumstances during a routine training session at a local swimming pool. The player, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was last seen submerged in the pool during a team practice early Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at the Sunshine Aquatic Center, where members of the Tampa Underwater Hockey Club had gathered for their weekly training. According to teammates, the missing player was seen swimming to the deep end of the pool, preparing for a drill, but failed to resurface as expected.
“We initially thought it was part of the drill. He often practices long breath-holding techniques, but after several minutes, we started to get worried,” said one of the player’s teammates, who asked not to be named. “We called for help immediately.”
Pool staff responded quickly, and emergency services were contacted. First responders performed a search of the pool but were unable to locate the player. As of late Tuesday evening, authorities confirmed the swimmer was still unaccounted for.
Underwater hockey, a sport played with teams of six on the bottom of a pool, involves intense physical exertion and breath control. However, the pool in question is known for its deep water, making it a popular spot for local players who wish to push their limits in a controlled environment.
“We’re all in shock,” said the club’s coach, visibly shaken by the news. “Our hearts go out to the player’s family. We’re just hoping for the best.”
The search for the missing player resumed at first light Wednesday morning, with divers and rescue teams combing the pool. Authorities have also asked for the public’s help in providing any information that may assist in the investigation.
As of now, the cause of the disappearance remains unclear, but an investigation is underway.
