Gainesville, FL – Kelly Rae Finley, head coach of the Florida Gators women’s basketball team, has officially announced her decision to take a break from her coaching duties due to her pregnancy. Finley made the announcement during a press conference on Friday, expressing her excitement and gratitude for this new chapter in her life.

“While I am thrilled about this upcoming journey into motherhood, my commitment to the Gators remains unwavering,” said Finley. “I have the utmost confidence in my coaching staff and players to continue building on the progress we’ve made together.”

Finley, who took over as head coach in 2021 after serving as an assistant coach, has made a significant impact on the program, leading the Gators to a strong performance last season and fostering a culture of excellence and resilience. Under her leadership, the team has seen marked improvements, both on and off the court.

The Gators will appoint an interim coach during Finley’s leave to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in training and competition. Athletic Director Scott Stricklin expressed full support for Finley’s decision, stating, “We stand behind Kelly Rae during this important time in her life. Her health and well-being, along with her family, come first.”

As the Gators prepare for the upcoming season, the focus remains on maintaining the momentum built over the past years. The team is set to begin practice next month, and Finley is hopeful about staying involved remotely.

Fans and players alike have rallied around Finley, showing their support through social media and community events. The Gators community is eager to celebrate both the upcoming season and the new addition to the Finley family.
