“Superagent” Don Buchwald, longtime agent to Howard Stern and founder of the talent agency Buchwald, died Tuesday in his New York home. He was 88.

“I promised my father that the incredible agency he built from the ground up 47 years ago will not only continue to flourish but will evolve as we forge our path ahead,” wrote his daughter Julia Buchwald, the president of Buchwald’s West Coast office, in a statement. “I, along with my devoted teammates, intend to keep this promise and make Don proud.”

Buchwald is best known as the agent of loud-mouthed radio personality Stern, who had been his client since 1984. Stern often referred to Buchwald, who was also his close friend and collaborator, as “Superagent” on episodes of “The Howard Stern Show.”

In an interview with the New York Times, Stern said that everyone in Hollywood “should have a Don Buchwald in their life.” He went on to gush that he would “never want to be without him, and I don’t need anyone but him. It sounds like a love song, but it is.”

In 1977, Buchwald founded his talent agency Don Buchwald & Associates (which has since rebranded to just Buchwald) with a team of just five agents in New York. His rapid success allowed him to expand the agency, with the opening of a second office in 1992. The Buchwald staff has since grown to around 130 employees, representing clientele from various media and entertainment backgrounds across both coasts.

Buchwald is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Maggie, and his daughters Julia and Laura Buchwald.
