Real Madrid finally close in on Alphonso Davies transfer

Real Madrid are 'keeping an eye on' Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies | Daily Mail Online

Alphonso Davies is expected to leave Bayern Munich this summer after all, according to German media.

The transfer saga surrounding the Canadian superstar finally appears to be entering its final stages. While a move may not yet be imminent, it seems at least as though a decision on what will materialise at some point in the coming weeks has been made.

According to Kicker, Davies is expected to leave Bayern this summer. With a contract extension not forthcoming, the Bavarians now appear to have made the decision to offload the left-back in this transfer window.

This, by itself, is not groundbreaking news, of course. It has been speculated for months that Bayern would look to cash in on the 23-year-old this summer if they failed to agree fresh terms with him, but a recent report cast doubt on that fact.

Indeed, it had been claimed that Bayern had softened their stance and were prepared to take the risk of heading into the new season with Davies on an expiring contract after there had been some rapprochement between the club and the player’s camp following the appointment of Vincent Kompany.

However, this now appears to be no longer the case, with the above-mentioned report indicating that Davies is expected to leave the Allianz Arena in the coming weeks.

The problem is that it is not yet clear how much Bayern will demand for the Canadian. In the early stages of this saga, a fee of €50 million was touted, but that number has fluctuated massively.

At one point, it was suggested that the Bundesliga behemoth could ask for as much as €70m-€80m, while Fabrizio Romano recently stated that Real Madrid, Davies’ main suitors, may not even be prepared to go as high as €40m.

Be that as it may, it does now at least appear that Los Blancos have received the final greenlight to pursue a move for the left-back. Should they fail to reach an agreement with Bayern, Real Madrid will simply play the waiting game, knowing that Davies will be a free agent next summer and that the allure of the Santiago Bernabeu is hard to resist.
